Adriana Majdzińska, Ph.D. Born on November 11th, 1973 in Słupsk, Poland. In 2000 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Faculty of Sculpture. Since 2006 she has been working at the Gdańsk Academy, Faculty of Sculpture. In 2011 she defended her Ph.D. Dissertation ”The temptation of perfection”. The artist is involved in sculpting, drawing, artistic activities and social initiatives. In her artworks she is interested in classically understood spatial forms. She mainly works in wood but also uses metal, stone, concrete or ceramics. Her chosen material is always subjected to the artwork content. She manipulates with simple, synthetic forms applying a symbolic value to them. So far the following series have been completed: ”Seven deadly sins”(2000), ”Militaria” (2002), ”Video installation” (2004), ”Masculinum” (2007), ”Memoirs” (2007), ”Container” (2009), ”Reliquaries” (2011), ”Heart” (2012), ”Signum” (2013), ”Signum II” (2014). She has participated in numerous exhibitions, plein- air workshops and sculptural competitions in Poland and abroad. She is a laureate of prizes, art grants and scholarships, such as: Art Grant of the Minister of Arts and Culture in 1998, the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts’ Rector Prize in 2000, the Gdańsk Society of Friends of Art Prize for the best debut in the sculpture category in 2000, the gold medal at t he 20th Sculpture Exhibition in Warsaw in 2003, the Gdańsk Mayor’s Medal in 2006 and the Gdańsk Cultural Scholarship Thrice.
